In 1990, a small group of volunteers supported me and my
wife in our decision to begin the Multicultural Festival of West Virginia.
With minimum funds and maximum passion, we secured a venue, invited
vendors and bought entertainment to give Charleston a new place to go on
the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday in August.
Since that time, Multifest has grown in many ways. Throughout the
years, our entertainment lineup has grown to include chart-topping-talent
and crowd favorites from the past that broke through cultural barriers
that once separated God’s people. Our ethnic program on Saturday has
continued to be educational and entertaining to those who seek knowledge
of cultures not familiar to them. Our vendors have expanded beyond the
Capitol’s round center court and the crowds have grown pleasantly large.
The Multifest board, its additional volunteers and many supporting
citizens of West Virginia are proud of the Multifest legacy and look
forward to keeping it strong. We thank our sponsors who help produce
festival activities for all of us to enjoy. We welcome our vendors, and
trust you will make this weekend fruitful for them, so that they will want
to return to Multifest again and again.
OUR
MISSION: The Multi-Cultural Festival of West Virginia seeks to enrich the
lives of those we serve - our sponsors, our vendors and our community - by
providing a venue to celebrate diversity for all citizens in our region
through art, music, education, cultural programs and cuisine.
We hope you enjoy your weekend as much as we have enjoyed planning it.
Sincerely,
